Weta Digital Rolls out RV

Friday, July 28, 2006 San Francisco, CA - Tweak Software is pleased to announce that Weta Digital Ltd. has chosen to add RV to their digital production pipeline. Tweak first collaborated with Weta during post-production on 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." For the LOTR project Tweak developed custom software to simulate the massive destruction of Barad-Dur and for other ground cracking/destruction effects, as well as a custom renderer for computing ambient occlusion on large data sets and RenderMan shaders.

Weta was introduced to RV during VFX production on 'King Kong'. For the final crunch on that project, Tweak lent our compositing supe Mike Root, to Weta.  Mike introduced Weta compositors to Tweak RV. In addition to performance and the floating-point image pipeline, Weta saw the value of being able to customize  and modify the software to fit into their workflow. Today, we're glad to announce that Weta has decided to roll out RV to the facility.
